| The Old Advertisements which appear on some of the Stratford pages are taken from "E Fox's Penny Guide to Stratford-on-Avon". The copy we have is very flimsy and we can't date it accurately. However, it refers to the headmaster of KES as being the Rev EJW Houghton, who we have found was head from 1895 to 1902, so obviously the guide appeared somewhere between those dates. Do you shop at Morrison’s Supermarket by Stratford station? Some of our postcards have been reproduced on the walls of the recently refurbished building and also used to make "picture" windows in the restaurant. |
| We were delighted to have been able to assist the English National Opera by providing an image of one of our postcards for inclusion in the programme for their Spring 2006 production of Vaughan Williams' comic opera "Sir John in Love". The composer spent several weeks around the Old Theatre in the autumn of 1912 and the spring of 1913, working as musical director of “The Merry Wives of Windsor”under Frank Benson's direction, and fell in love with the play. He wrote the opera in 1920. The ENO has an excellent website - like Stratford, it's well worth a visit. |
