Stow-on-the-Wold,
Gloucestershire
Stow is a small market town set on top of a hill about 21 miles from Stratford. When
I was a lot younger I used to help deliver "Corona" round the town and got to know
it quite well. The local saying "the wind blows cold at Stow-on-the-Wold" was
certainly true in the winter ! But it's a nice place to visit and have your photo taken
sitting in the stocks !
The Stocks - an excellent "real photo" postcard which appears to be from the late 1930s.
Three rather uninspiring views of the Cotswolds from Stow.
A good, clear view of the Square from 1939.
This image was emailed to us from a friend in the USA - the card is unused so
he couldn't give us a date. Compare the trees with the postcard on the right.

Three more postcards emailed by our US friend - unfortunately the image quality is not quite so good as usual, but there is still a lot of detail if you click
on them.
A further emailed view from the USA - this
card appears to be from the 1950s.
Stow Church - a postcard by Frank Packer of Chipping Norton

Church Street,
probably in the
1960s.
No date on this view of the Square, but no cars in the picture.
Two great old postcards of the Square. These are "real photo" postcards, taken by Frank Packer of Chipping Norton, probably in the 1920s.
