Oxford and the University
Oxford - the City. Oxford is located about 55 miles north-west of London. The city centre is dominated by the major colleges of the University, but there is an excellent shopping centre with plenty of restaurants and some famous old pubs and a covered market. As with Cambridge, there are throngs of tourists who, with the student population, make the city a bustling, lively place to be. We love Oxford - the town, the colleges, the river, the whole atmosphere of the place. We visit regularly and we'd love to live there, but we can't afford to move - if anyone has about half a million quid to spare, we'd be very grateful !! - and you could come to tea !
Oxford - the University. The University has 39 colleges and 7 "Permanent Private Halls". The colleges are listed below and the links, where available, are to our pages of postcards of the colleges. In addition, each college has its own website and links are provided to these from the corresponding web page. In keeping with our policy only to include postcards which are at least 50 years old, the list of colleges does not include those founded after 1960. We are working on each college as time permits, so if there is not yet a link to your favourite, please be patient. We do not have postcards of every college so if you can provide us with some images - and with some recollections of university life, interesting facts and figures, anecdotes etc, we would be most grateful. You may contact us via this link. Information given here about the colleges has been gleaned from a variety of books and websites.

We'd be delighted if you would sign our Guest Book ! We welcome suggestions, corrections and constructive criticism - or just say "Hello !" and tell us where you come from.
I have a cousin who is well-known for her verbal gymnastics. My favourite occurred when she exclaimed that someone should have gone to "Unid Oxiversity" !
