"The College of the Blessed Mary and All Saints, Lincoln, in the University of
Oxford, commonly called Lincoln College" was founded by Richard Fleming,
Bishop of Lincoln, in 1427, and named after his cathedral. His intention was
that it should be "a little college of true students of theology who would
defend the mysteries of Scripture against those ignorant laymen who
profaned with swinish snouts its most holy pearls". This was aimed at the
Lollard teachings of John Wyclif. For a more comprehensive history, visit the
college website.
