| The City of London |

Chepe of the Middle Ages, and one of the most ancient and historic streets in London, extends from St Paul's to the Mansion House, and has always been a street of traders. John Gilpin, of ballad fame, was a "linendraper bold" of Cheapside. Here stood one of the Eleanor Crosses, which the Puritans pulled down in 1643. The Mansion House is the official residence of the Lord Mayor of London." |
