London Bridge
London Bridge Station, Aerial View, Old Postcard
An aerial view which shows the railway lines running into London Bridge Station.
London Bridge Station was built on Tooley Street for the London and
Greenwich Railway, and opened in 1836. It is the oldest of London's
Stations. In 1844 a joint station was opened with the London and
Croydon, but this was demolished in 1850 and a new joint station
opened. This didn't last long - until 1853, when it was again demolished
and rebuilt. The Terminus Hotel opened in 1861. Since then there have
been further developments with the latest by British Rail in 1978. Network
Rail has a brief history on their
website.
