| Essex is a county in the east of England, bordering Greater London and Hertfordshire to the west, the Thames Estuary to the south and Suffolk and Cambridgeshire to the north. The county town is Chelmsford. Other major settlements include Colchester, Harwich, Basildon, Harlow, Brentwood and Southend-on-Sea. Stansted Airport lies in the west of the county.
