| Chicago lies in northeastern Illinois at the southwestern tip of Lake Michigan. Two rivers, the Chicago River in the downtown area and the Calumet River in the industrial area to the South, flow through the city, whilst the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal connects the Chicago River with the Des Plaines River, which in turn runs to the west of the city. Chicago is the third most heavily populated city in the USA (after New York and Los Angeles), the metropolitan area having 9.4 million inhabitants in 2010. For more facts and figures read the Wikipedia article, or if you prefer visit the Official Chicago Tourism website. |
