Old Postcard, Emmanuel College, Cambridge
Emmanuel College was founded in
1584 by Sir Walter Mildmay. The
college was originally intended for
training Protestant preachers but
has since broadened its horizons
with the addition of a variety of
subjects for study. Female
students were first admitted in
1979.

The college is known in
Cambridge as "Emma", and has
the distinction of being the "only
College in Cambridge to offer a
free laundry service".

1632), who was an Emmanuel graduate, and
whose mother was a native of
Stratford-upon-Avon.
