Boulogne-sur-Mer is a city and port in Northern France on the English Channel. It's a great place for a day
trip or to stay for a few nights. There are plenty of good restaurants and lots to do - the beach is great and
Nausicaa is fun - and don't forget to explore the old town.
A nice old card of the Quai Gambetta - and some interesting barrels !     (Z)

Did You Know......that on 6 April 1580, an earthquake
struck the Boulogne area. It was reported that the town was
flooded and buildings were shaken like leaves. Wine casks
rolled off their stands, furniture was overturned and tables
were lifted into the air. The quake also struck
Calais.

Did You Know......that Sir Alexander Fleming,
who in 1929 discovered penicillin, served in a
military hospital during World War 1 ? He was able
to make advances in the use of antiseptics for
treating wounds. This hospital was located in what
had been a fencing school on the roof of the
Casino in Boulogne.
