Blandford Forum,
Dorset
Blandford is a large market town in the east of the county of Dorset. Nearby is Blandford Camp, an army base
where my father was stationed when he joined up in 1918. His sister, my Auntie May, later married and came
to live in the town. She lived with her husband Robin Biddulph at Lyston House on East Street. She was Mayor
of the town for a couple of years - she read the Proclamation when the King died in 1952 - and I used to come
to Blandford on the bus from Stratford. I remember there was a fair in the street once while I was there, and
also a lot of tanks from Blandford Camp went through the town in the middle of the night and woke everyone
up - except me !

We would like to include your memories of Blandford or indeed any interesting information about the town.
Please
get in touch if you can help !

We have been contacted by Sandra Sullivan (nee Gregory)who currently lives in Australia. She is
looking for some information about Blandford Camp and would like to hear from anyone who has
any information about Motor Cycle Racing there in the late 1940s. Her father, Dave Gregory, was
unfortunately killed in an accident during a race on 3 September 1949. Sandra is looking for any
information she can find about the race, the accident etc. Were you there ? Were you one of the
medical team who attended him ? Do  you know where he is buried ? If you can help in any way,
please contact us on gregoryolney@aol.com - we will happily pass on your email to Sandra.

We have received an email (Feb 2010) from Judy, as follows: "My grandfather was at Blandford Camp
duringWorld War I.  He was in the R.F.C. in the Royal Warwickshire and was a disciplinarian in the
Recruits Depot.  If you or any of your viewers have any bits of information about the camp, its history,
size, facilities, etc., I would be most grateful to learn of them."
If you would like to pass on some information, please
email us and we will happily send it on to Judy - and
publish it on this page if you wish.
