Avignon, Vaucluse
The major attraction in Avignon is of course the Palais des Papes, and it is indeed well worth a
visit. But the town centre is also very attractive, so if you go there, don't miss it !!
The famous Pont d'Avignon in a postcard mailed in 1905. There wasn't anybody dancing on it when I was there in the late 90s.

Ils furent commences en 1350 du Cote du Rhone par le Pape Clement VI, continues du cote de la porte St Roch a St-Lazare par
Innocent  VI (1357). En 1364 Urbain V continua de la porte St-Lazare jusqu'au Rocher. Clement VII les reprit en 1379 et ils
furent acheves en 1475 sous le Pontificat de Sixte IV."
