Some old postcards of towns and villages near Stratford.
A few views of towns and villages near Stratford for which we have insufficient

place before we can make a new page, so if you can help bring the numbers up,
please get in touch !

that beautiful district of England endeared to the heart of the tourist as "Shakespeare's Country".  Its cottages are very quaint and picturesque with the inevitable
thatched roof, red-tiled chimney and casemented windows, and have probably stood in their present state since the days of Shakespeare".
This postcard from 1909 is entitled "The Tumble Down Stile, near
Stratford-on-Avon" The description from the reverse is "This quaint and deceptive
gateway is situated in a field at Charlecote, close to Stratford-upon-Avon. To all
appearances of firm construction, it is so built that the unwary pedestrian who
attempts to cross it without knowing its peculiarities, is precipitated headlong to
the ground."
This one dates from 1924.
