About this Website
This website originally consisted only of postcards of Stratford-upon-Avon and the surrounding towns and villages. However it has grown, and although there are over 300 cards of Stratford, London has far exceeded this total and there are ever increasing numbers of cards from other places in the world, chosen for no other reason than that we have visited, lived and/or worked in them and liked them, or because some visitors to this site have asked us to include their favourite place.
| Please help us !!! If you like this website, please help us maintain it ! (A) Advertise with us. Our charges are minimal - please visit our "Advertising" page. (B) If you are filthy rich, (some of you must be !!) send us lots of lovely money so we can go out and buy some super old postcards !! Good quality old postcards aren't cheap, even on eBay. | To contact us, please email us by using this link. You may click on many of the images throughout this website to see an enlarged picture, the size of which will depend on your browser. As far as we are aware we haven't infringed any copyright laws, as almost all our postcards are well over 50 years old. However, if we have, we apologise, and if you will email us and tell us what is wrong, we will remove the offending image. |
We were delighted to have been able to assist the English National Opera by providing one of our postcards for inclusion in the programme for their Spring 2006 production of Vaughan Williams' rarely performed comic opera "Sir John in Love". The composer spent several weeks in and around the Old Theatre in the autumn of 1912 and the spring of 1913, working as musical director for Frank Benson and his production of "The Merry Wives of Windsor" and fell in love with the play. He wrote the opera in the mid 1920s and it was first performed in 1929 at the Royal College of Music. Click on the following link to visit the excellent ENO website.
MORRISON'S Do you shop in Morrison's, by Stratford station ? If so you may well have seen some of our postcards reproduced there, many by the checkouts. Go and have a snack in their restaurant and have a look at the "picture windows", illustrated below.
Several of the postcards from our Windsor page were used by Granada TV in "David Starkey's Monarchy: The Windsors" which was broadcast on Channel 4 on Boxing Day 2007. We are pleased to have been able to help with the production.
The "Warwickshire Tourist Guide" is a website designed to help you make the most of your visit to this exceptional area. With so much to see and do all year round, let the Warwickshire Tourist Guide be your guide to the best places to stay, the best places to visit and the best sights to see.
Roger Wilmut's Web Pages This is a really interesting site for fans of music hall and opera. Roger went to Warwick School and his father taught at KES - and there is a photo of the river at Stratford frozen with people walking on it !
